"Water" Photography Exhibit at Vermont PhotoPlace Gallery

People at Fountain, NYC, 2011 © Robert Forlini

My photograph, People at Fountain, NY, 2011, has been selected by juror Connie Imboden to appear in an exhibition entitled "Water" at Vermont PhotoPlace Gallery's Online Gallery. To quote from the juror's statement, "Water is a subject near and dear to me.  I have spent almost thirty years exploring the mesmerizing qualities of it – how it can distort, magnify, elongate and reflect ... I found myself attracted to the photographs that rely on a special way of seeing – of using the water to see in a new way, rather than finding a special subject or event and making a picture of it.  It is through the seeing and the exploration, that the image becomes unique and original and can transform an ordinary subject into something extraordinary". In addition, the picture will be published in an exhibition catalog which will be available through the gallery website.

"Home", Photography Exhibition at Umbrella Arts in NYC from May 3-26, 2012

Saturday Morning, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 1992 © Robert Forlini

I will be showing my photograph Saturday Morning in an exhibition entitled "Home" at Umbrella Arts Gallery on New York's Lower East Side from May 3-26. The Opening Reception will be on Wednesday May 9 from 6-8 pm. The show was curated by photographer Harvey Stein, and is part of an ongoing series of exhibits investigating themes that explore the basic yet complex and necessary needs and desires of the human condition. These themes throw the spotlight on our daily experiences that are omnipresent, totally necessary, but are mostly overlooked or when acknowledged are usually taken for granted. Nothing is more basic, necessary and involuntary than sleep, food, and shelter. Through this ongoing exploration, surprising and creative images have made our needs more conscious and allow the artist and viewer to be more connected to the richness of every day life, experience and surroundings. A book based on the exhibited images for "Home" will be published by the gallery and will be for sale during the exhibition.
